The Moment Our Mission Comes to Life

Dear FFWS scholars and supporting friends,

Graduation season holds a special place in our hearts at FFWS. It’s the moment when our mission comes to life — removing financial barriers to higher education and helping launch scholars into their next chapter. Our graduates will go on to strengthen communities through meaningful careers, leadership, and service while planting seeds of opportunity for future generations.

One of Tashia Morgridge’s favorite quotes is very fitting: “The true meaning of life is to plant trees under whose shade you do not expect to sit.” — Nelson Henderson

One of the greatest privileges of my role is getting to know many of our scholars personally. In a world where people are often searching for hope, I find it every day in these students.

This fall, we welcomed nearly 1,600 new scholars to FFWS, bringing our 2025–2026 scholar roster 40% higher than in 2023. From the beginning, our founders John P. and Tashia Morgridge’s gift has represented far more than financial support. It has been an open door to opportunity. FFWS scholars are selected randomly with the unwavering belief that every student deserves access to higher education without the burden of overwhelming debt.

That belief sends a powerful message to each scholar: You matter. We believe in you. Your future is worth investing in.

I am deeply grateful to every FFWS supporter, including the Universities of Wisconsin System leaders and campus partners who champion Wisconsin scholars each day.

With deep gratitude,

Kelly Ruppel
